Hi there,
At The Discourse, we try to do journalism differently. That means leading with care — care for the craft, care for our communities and care for our colleagues.
Asking for money wasn't part of my journalism school training, and it still doesn't feel comfortable. I know we are all stretched thin and pulled in thousands of directions.
But I keep asking because it matters — not only to the sustainability of this work, but to its integrity, too.
Reader support puts us into a deeper relationship with the communities we serve. I want The Discourse's most important relationships to be with you, our community members — not governments or advertisers.
Will you join hundreds of people who agree that independent local news is worth standing up for? We're 65 per cent of the way to our goal of raising $10,000 by midnight tonight. We need your support to cross the finish line.

If just 10 per cent of the people who read this email make a small contribution, we'll blow that goal out of the water, allowing us to dig deeper on more local stories that matter in 2024.
Truly, every little bit helps. Even a small, one-time contribution is a vote of confidence that we have done something worthy of your support. If you choose to make a small monthly contribution, that helps even more — and counts times 12 towards the goal.
If you prefer to contribute by e-transfer or cheque, send me an email and I'd be glad to help.
And if you're reading this after the deadline and would still like to support, you still can, and it will be just as impactful and meaningful.
