The salmon are making their annual return to the Cowichan Valley and to streams and rivers across Vancouver Island, so I thought it would be a great time to highlight some local spots to watch them — and to speak with a few experts about how salmon populations are doing as a whole. You can read that story here.
It’s also timely, as salmon have been in the news for another reason. Protests have been ongoing in Goldstream Provincial Park against a provincial highway project that protestors say will harm the salmon that call the river home. You’ll hear a little from W̱SÁNEĆ Elder Carl Olsen from Tsartlip, one of the original protestors, in this story and in upcoming coverage of the protest. Stay tuned for that!
Have a great weekend and a safe and spooky Halloween!
