One of the first reporting assignments I had when I moved to Vancouver Island was about Remembrance Day. I had the privilege of interviewing local veterans, many of whom invited me into their homes to share their stories and experiences with me. I think of them when I start to see red poppies pop up in the community as Remembrance Day nears.
With the job of bearing witness and telling stories that may become part of the historical record, I’m regularly reminded of the importance of remembering.
Honouring people’s memories, stories and lives by sharing them with others in a way that is accurate and just is a responsibility.
Remembrance Day is tomorrow, and the team at The Discourse has put together a list of local ceremonies for you to attend. You won’t see a regular newsletter from us as our reporters will also be at the ceremonies.
I hope you find this list helpful.
