This Saturday features two benefit concerts for people in our community who are struggling with their health. 

The first is an all-star line up of local hip-hop artists coming together at The Globe Live studio for a benefit show for Lisa Jonas, who needs support with living expenses and medical costs not covered by insurance as she suffers from “acute chronic liver failure.”

The second is a Three Band Extravaganza at The Queen’s to support Alexis Pitre’s fight against cancer. Pitre was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called primary angiosarcoma and is looking for support as she recovers from major surgery.

Also, in case you missed it, we have also included my story about the amazing all-ages punk and metal scene in Nanaimo below. 

I loved seeing how much this story has resonated with readers, be they youth who were at the show or people who used to be involved in the local punk scene who are happy that it is going strong today.

Saturday, April 4, 7 p.m.: Eagle Eyes, The Accidental Super Band and Prawnicle will play a Three Band Extravaganza with all proceeds going to Alexis Pitre’s fight against cancer at The Queen's. Tickets cost $10.

• 5:30 p.m.: The Keep Right Quartet and friends play at the Green Olive. Admission is free.

• 7 p.m.: Spendo and Trophy Dad take the stage for a night of Rock N’ Roll at The Queen’s. Tickets cost $20.

• 7 p.m.: Patrick Maliha with special guests will perform stand-up comedy at The Corner Lounge. Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
  

Friday, April 3 

• 6:30 p.m.: Ironhead, Sleep Country, Iron Rot and End Of Thread will play a metal show at The Globe Live Studio. Tickets cost $15.

• 7 p.m.: The James Vickers Band will play at The Queen's. Tickets cost $15 in advance. 

• 7 p.m.: Watch a Tribute to Queen and The Beatles under the gentle glow of candlelight at St. Andrew's United Church. Tickets cost $45 to $65.50.

• 9 p.m.: Discover the music of Coldplay under the gentle glow of candlelight at St. Andrews United Church. Tickets cost 31.50 to $65.50.
  

Saturday, April 4 

• 4 p.m.: Sirreal, Revron, Katch 22’s A Band in Mint Issues, LowkG, Tangible Two, Peter Hudson and Juniper, QB Mac, Diego Flores, $elfimploy Morgan Murray and Jonah O’Connor will play an all-ages fundraiser for Lisa Christine Jonas at The Globe Live Studio. Tickets cost $10 to $70.
  

Sunday, April 5 

• 3 p.m.: The Sunday Blues Jam by The Nanaimo Blues Society at The Queens. Tickets cost $10.

Thursday, April 2

• 7 p.m.: Europa Super Circus will put a modern twist on the classic circus, offering an evening of thrilling performances, mesmerizing lights, and whimsical delights at the Nanaimo North Town Centre until Sunday, April 5. Tickets cost $20 for children and $35 for adults.

Friday, April 3 

• 7 p.m.: West Coast Swing Social Dance and Workshop at Wellington Hall. Tickets cost $15. 
  

Sunday, April 5

• 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a simple Sunday Lunch at St. Paul's Anglican Church. Admission is free but donations are encouraged.

• 1 p.m.: Art Lab Sunday: Wax and Watercolour. Use wax and watercolour paints to create a cool negative space artwork at the Nanaimo Art Gallery. All ages are welcome. Free for gallery members, $5 for non-members., Children must be accompanied by an adult. 
  

Wednesday, April 8 

• 3 p.m.: The Nanaimo Farmers' Market - Island Roots takes place every Wednesday in Beban Park. Explore a delightful array of fruits and vegetables (in season), meat, eggs, preserves, artisanal baking, soaps and specialty goods from the region’s best farmers and artisans.
