This May long weekend, I’m looking forward to seeing some of the 60 bands and performers who will take over venues on Victoria Crescent for Sunk City, Nanaimo’s three-day underground music and arts festival.
I attended two years ago and it featured a wide variety of independent music from musicians and artists in Nanaimo and beyond and I had an absolute blast there. If you are interested, you can read my story about the festival this year below.
If I wasn’t going to Sunk City, I would consider taking the ferry over to Gabriola Island for MAY'd on Gabriola — a self-guided tour of 40 open studios and pop-up markets.
Also, Pride season is upon us with Pizza in the Park for Pride at Maffeo Sutton Park on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. if you want to grab a slice and meet some of the volunteers with the Nanaimo Pride Society. Keep an eye out for The Discourse’s Pride Guide in the next few weeks. It’ll include Pride events in the Comox Valley, Nanaimo and Cowichan Valley.
If none of these events grab your attention, we have our full events listings below for you to pursue.
Have a great long weekend!
