Welcome to The Hub Nanaimo, your weekly insider guide to the best of community arts and culture. Did a friend forward this email to you? Subscribe to this newsletter.

I recently spoke with Snuneymuxw Elder and Knowledge Keeper C’tasi:a (Geraldine Manson) about a new book she co-authored with ethnobotanist Nancy Turner.

The book, Plant Teachings from my Auntie, shares traditional knowledge about plants and their uses as medicine, tools and more.

It was so wonderful to learn more about C’tasi:a — who was Elder in Residence at Vancouver Island University for more than a decade — and the work she does in the community.

We spoke about the importance of traditional plant knowledge and why she shares it with others and we also talked about her auntie, the late Ellen White, to whom she dedicated her book.

You can read my Q&A with C’tasi:a at the link below, followed by our usual events listings that are packed with end-of-summer activities.
