Hi there,
This week I’m sharing a story from our Comox Valley reporter, Madeline Dunnett.
It’s about a recently released letter to B.C.’s Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship signed by 88 organizations — several from Duncan — urging the province to follow through on its promises to create new legislation protecting biodiversity.
Madeline spoke with several Comox Valley-based advocates about why their groups signed the letter — and why they’re frustrated with what they see as inaction by the province.
That’s despite B.C. government pledges and several reports supporting more biodiversity protections, such as the 2020 Old Growth Strategic Review, and the 2023 Draft Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Framework, which made 14 recommendations for provincial action.
Read more about the advocates' letter — and what they’re asking from the province — in Madeline’s story here.
Have a great weekend!
